There are an estimated 7 thousand couples married every day in the UK. This may surprise some of you as weddings have statistically been in decline over the last few years. The good news is that with that may couples tying the knot the chances are you will be invited to a wedding sometime this year!
Everyone loves the opportunity to dress up at weddings! They allow us to add a touch of glamour to our lives and the great opportunity to do some retail therapy!
Choosing what to wear can be a little daunting and there are a few key points you should try and remember.
1. It is not a good idea to wear white or ivory as it may look as if you are trying to upstage the bride!
2. Be careful not to wear the same colour as the bridesmaids or matrons of honour! Again this will make you look as if you wish you had been chosen and may make you feel very uncomfortable!
3. Dress according to the style of the wedding. If it is a plush top hat and tails wedding you really shouldn’t turn up in jeans!
4. Casual does not mean sloppy! Choose comfortable outfits which are chic and elegant without being too OTT!
5. It may be a good idea to check to see whether a hat or head covering will be required. Although the tradition of wearing a hat in church may have diminished over the years, there are some cultures when a head covering is required.
6. The time of year will have a marked affect on what outfit you choose. Remember that churches can be very cold and draughty so it may be a good idea to wear an outfit which a jacket or pretty cardigan can be worn.
7. Choose appropriate footwear! Remember the British weather, the wedding may be spring or late summer so there is always a chance of rain! High heels can sink into soft grass so this needs to be kept in mind if the reception is being held on a lawn, opt for wedge shoes or sandals as they will provide more stability. Wedges are also great for giving definition to the appearance of slim ankles.
8. Coordinate with your partner! Although you do not want to be wearing identical colours the style show be coherent!
9. Choose accessorise which can help enhance your body shape as well as blend effortlessly with your outfit. If you have large arms opt for chunk bangles rather than slim bracelets. Elongated the body by wearing long necklaces.
10. Choose an outfit which is comfortable for all aspects of the wedding. Tight waist bands or shoes which make your feet hurt should be avoided! You need to be able to enjoy the day without having to keep adjusting things or fidgeting!
Irrespective of the shape of your body or the style of plus size clothes you opt for, women who wear large sizes should choose a chic and elegant outfit to suit both them and the occasion.
