5 Easy Photo Tips For Your Digital Camera

July 14th, 2009. Published under Photography. No Comments.

Taking photographs is a great hobby. Although nothing will compare to memory itself, the next best thing is capturing those special moments in photos. Except by memory, what better way is there to remember when you and your spouse called it official at the beachside resort? What better way is there to remember when you visited Italy during summer last year?

By now, you will have noticed that not all photos come out the way you want them to. Some might have come out blurry while others just lack a point altogether. What are some ways that you can improve on your photo taking skills?

1. Know your camera from the inside out.
There is no point in your having a digital camera if you aren’t going to utilize its features. Find out what each function does and get familiarized with all of its options.

2. Get familiarized with the scene modes.
This goes hand in hand with knowing your camera from the inside out. Most, if not all, digital cameras offer scene modes, which when set to a specific one will take a picture a different way. For example, setting a scene mode on a portrait option will make the camera use its flash differently than when you use a nature mode.

3. Be a manipulative director.
It’s okay. Be manipulative with how your photos will turn out. Be the director and tell people to move around so you can take a better picture. When snapping photos of inanimate objects, move them around until you like what you see or if you like how the object is placed already but want to get a better view, reposition yourself instead.

4. De-clutter the background.
Sometimes simplicity is better. The difference between a good photo and a bad one can be as simple as cleaning up the clutter that’s around it. Say, for example, you want to take a picture of your new cat laying on your sofa but the table next to the sofa is littered. Unless you are a master of editing photos with Photoshop, the clutter will have to go! The subject is your cat, not the clutter around it.

5. Take vertical and angled photos
Yes, tilt that camera. Horizontal makes for some awesome shots, but changing it up a little bit by shooting vertically or at an angle will produce some awesome shots, too. Taking shots of buildings at its corner while angling your camera is an example of how angled photos can come out great.
