Can I Ship With a Courier Even If I Don’t Have an Account?

July 24th, 2009. Published under Small Business. No Comments.

Common sense would seem to dictate that someone who does business with customers on a regular basis is going to require a San Francisco courier service to move goods from their facility to their customers or clients facilities, stores, or homes.

However, for one reason or another there are any number of companies which choose to resist actually opening a courier account with a company, and who wish to find out if they have options as far as shipping with couriers without first opening an account.

There is any number of reasons why it is generally better to have an account with a courier company. First of all, there are a lot of services which are only offered to account holders of a courier company, not those who only ship on a pay per shipment basis.

Many of these include online functionality which will be included in the courier software the courier employees, with features like online order tracking, instant online shipping quotes, real time delivery notifications, online address book storage, and online order placement.

These features are all designed to make shipping a more positive experience, something that should encourage many people to actually take the leap and open a courier account.

Not all couriers out there will let you ship with an account, but the good news if you’re dead set against opening an account is that there are some companies which will allow you to ship without one. However, you will have to pay upfront to have your orders shipped rather than simply being billed at the end of a typical monthly cycle like the account holders would be.

Generally speaking, it is going to really be in a company best interest to start an account with a courier company rather than shipping with them on a case by case basis. However, the one time when it might be better to not go ahead and open an account is when you are considering doing so but haven’t decided which company is the best for you just yet.

In that situation it can be more than worth the money to take some time and compare the companies, including getting quotes and even shipping with a few different ones to see which provides you with the best value and experience for your money. That way you can make a much more informed decision when it is time to open your account.
