The summer is upon us, and while the weather is currently all over the place, from brilliant sunny days to torrential downpours, it’s time to make the most of the summer! It can often be difficult to dress well in summer, especially if you are not a fan of wearing bright and bold colours.
This year’s summer fashion trends do mostly focus on these bright colours as always, but there are a few hidden gems that look amazing for those of us who would rather wear more subdued tones. In fact for a far more chic look try using more earthy coloured tones, such as light browns and terracotta as well as pale greens and greys.
The idea is to focus on the earth’s more natural hues, but not necessarily sky or sea colours like blues. While the idea is to pick subdued colours, make sure you keep to warm looking colours so that you do not end up looking too dark or drawn in to the background.
Blues are suitable however if you are comfortable wearing slightly more vivid colours, such as sandy yellows and muted reds. The idea is to focus on classical seaside colours, combining the subtle sea tones with delicate reds, yellows and even pale greys.
The key with this more colourful seaside approach is to not wear too bright colours. While a lot of us associate summer with daring reds and yellows this is not always the best thing to wear, especially in casual situations.
Keep your dazzling red dress for any fancy social events, where they will look perfect. In fact by trending toward slightly muted tones for the majority of summer, and then wearing the bold and beautiful intense colours to formal occasions it will help make so much more of an impact.
Wearing them all summer long makes them become the norm, so for the best impact wear them sparingly when you truly wish to shine.
While there are a few darker colours in this year’s summer colour palette, it is best to use them sparingly. They are just going to darken your look when summer is all about being out there and visible.
Not only that, but they will also make you much hotter, as dark colours absorb light and therefore radiate heat, far more than light ones. By wearing predominantly darker hues you will just be making yourself hotter in the summer sun.
So overall you want to avoid really bright colours, apart from at special occasions. Instead sticking to slightly more subtle tones, which are still colourful yet are not too full on. Try sticking to earthy tones, just ensure that you are only picking summer hues and avoid dark colours! If you are feeling brave then try a mix of the traditional seaside colours, muted reds, sea blues and greens, sandy yellows and possibly a few yellow greys.
For an easy to create look that will keep you cool this summer, why not try a practical green top with subdued brown or sand yellow clam digger trousers. This look is great casual wear for women who wear plus size trousers and will really help to keep you cool when the weather returns to being hot this summer!
