When you step into the gym it is so easy to become distracted and in the process lose focus on the most important aspects of your training. The following tips may come in handy for you in the event that you find your mind wandering away from the core intent of your training regimen.
Establishing what you want to gain from the training regimen. This is all about making an honest assessment of the main reason why you want to hit the gym in the first place. If you are genuinely in need of increasing your muscle mass, or if you really want to lose that extra body fat and stay fit then this reason should be your main motivation. With this realization in mind you will not shrug your shoulders as you head to the gym and keep on glancing at the hour mark wondering what time you will get home.
You will instead find out that you will be extremely motivated and reinvigorated despite the numerous aches and pains that your muscles will be experiencing. Arnold Schwarzenegger who is among one of the most legendary bodybuilders of all time is on record as saying that when he is invited to give talks on bodybuilding he reserves the first lectures for the purpose of letting people reaffirm the reason that is driving them to the gym in the first place. So, when you feel that your body and mind are not totally for the idea that you are going to the gym on a particular day just flash back and remember why you went to the gym initially.
Another way to reinstate your focus is by making mental visualizations of the end results of your training. This is one of the most powerful tools for self motivation. Sit back and gaze into the future with your mental eye. Let the mind take you to a visualization of what type of body you want to acquire. Of course it doesn’t help much if you are constantly comparing yourself to Ronnie Coleman. To get there you will have to pass through numerous steps.
These little steps are the ones that count most. Visualize how your biceps will look like if you add an extra inch. With this image in mind you will be able to train with a purpose. Never forget that building muscle mass is like building a house. It is done brick by brick but in the eventual end the complete house is ready.
Thirdly, you should make use of things that motivate you. This can be viewed as an extension of the previous point but it can also be viewed from a different context or perspective. Thinking about the end goal and the reward that comes with this achievement is a huge motivation. Supposing you are getting ready for a contest where the reward is being crowned national champion, fixing your mind on clinching this trophy can be the best incentive that you have to train harder. Once you get this focus it won’t be easy to get derailed.
