Ford Motor Company has used the name Ford Fusion for two different models, namely Ford Fusion Europe and Ford Fusion Americas. Before launching the Ford Focus, the Ford Company had used the name with their contractors in Europe for their publicity.

The Ford Fusion in North America met these nomenclature problems and the name of the model in this case was Futura. As the name was used by a tire distributor Pep Boys and according to the court challenge two separate names exist for the model.

The European Ford Fusion is an extended version of the model Ford Fiesta supermini, which was manufactured by the Ford of Europe from the year 2002. The UAV models include both the multi purpose and estates vehicles. As the vehicle contains roof racks, ground clearance increment and taller roof, the vehicle provides more space and comfort even for the taller drivers. The vehicle looks closer to mini SUVs and mini MPVs.

The XUV versions with no frills are manufactured in Brazil under the label Ford EcoSport and sold in the countries of Latin America. The Ford EcoSport looks similar to that of Ford Fusion, as An XUV it includes suspension in off road, increment in ride height, dark bumpers and larger wheels. It is also featured with 1.4, 1.0 liter Turbo, 2.0 and 1.6 liter petrol engines and 1.4 L TDCi diesel engine with four or front wheel drive.

The model Ford Fusion is difficult to be categorized in any of the sectors, as some see it as Compact MPV vehicle as it has the features of Nissan Note and Vauxhall Meriva, while some argue against this.

The Ford Fusion hit the roads in the countries of North and South America in the year 2006 with the code name CD338. The model is a mid size car manufactured by the company of Ford Motors.
