With price drops in airfare, cruises, and accommodations, anyone can afford a vacation these days. If you live in the United States and a tropical vacation sounds wonderful to you, skip currency exchanges, language barriers, and wrestling with passports and head for the tropical paradise of Florida.
You can relax on the pristine beach or have an adventure filled vacation with Key West scuba diving and snorkeling as you visit the depths of the ocean exploring the spectacular coral reef or looking for sunken treasure at one of the nearby shipwrecks. It doesn’t take long to earn your scuba certification at one of the local dive centers. The course in itself is lots of fun. Once you have your certification, the sea is your underwater playground.
Beginning Divers
If Key West scuba diving sounds like a blast, just enroll in a certification course at a local dive center upon arriving on the island. Thousands of people earn their scuba certification here each year. You can even reduce the amount of time the course takes by enrolling in advance so you can receive and complete the workbook before arriving on the island. With different levels of certification available, you are sure to find a course that fits your needs.
If you want scuba certification that allows you to dive anywhere in the world, you need the three day course. It starts with classroom instruction on the first day and then days two and three involve supervised pool and ocean dives. Once you have your certification, consider signing up for a scuba diving tour that includes all of your equipment, snacks and drinks, and a boat ride to the most spectacular diving spots around the island.
The underwater terrain and marine life will astound you and the shipwrecks of the area offer an undersea look at history. Even a cheap disposable underwater camera will work to take stunning pictures of your Key West scuba diving adventure.
Snorkeling For Everyone
If you’d like to have an underwater adventure, but aren’t interested in earning your scuba certification, consider snorkeling the reef. Snorkeling doesn’t require any certification and it’s easy. Since much of the coral reef surrounding the island is in shallow water, snorkeling is the perfect adventure for anyone, regardless of swimming skill.
Local snorkeling tours will zip you by boat to the best areas for snorkeling the reef where you’ll see vivid corals and marine life. Schools of brightly colored tropical fish will dart around you and a dolphin might even drop by for a visit. Some snorkeling tours feature a glass-bottomed boat ride, so it’s even perfect for those who want to enjoy life under the sea without actually getting in the water. A snorkeling and sunset cruise will send you out for a snorkeling adventure and back to land on a cruise where you’ll drift on the water while watching the sun dip below the horizon. It’s simply an amazing sight.
Things For Land Lubbers To Do
If you’d like to spend some time on dry land during your vacation adventure, you’ll find plenty to do. You can head to Old Town to take in a pirate museum, unique shopping, delicious seafood, or the aquarium.
Whether you prefer a land adventure or scuba diving and snorkeling, you are sure to find the adventure of a lifetime in this tropical island paradise.
