Being invited to a wedding gives you the opportunity to really push the boat out and treat yourself to a new outfit. Knowing what to wear can be a bit tricky due to the diverse weather in the UK!
Spring weddings are the opportunity to wear a pretty dress with a floral theme. Choose a style which suits your body shape and add a chic embellished cardigan for an informal look to help stave off shivers if it’s not very warm outside! Beware of wearing really strappy sandals or you may end up with wet feet!
Trouser suits are ideal for spring weddings and can be worn with pretty sheer fabric tops which look elegant once you have shed the jacket at the reception. Peep toe shoes are a great choice which does offer a little protection should it start raining!
Summer weddings are fabulous for fashion! They allow the flexibility of wearing a gorgeous dress, flowing skirt and top or a linen trouser suit. Opt for colours which enhance your complexion and give you a healthy looking glow. Steer away from white or creams as you don’t want to upstage the bride!
Accessorise with long necklaces and bangles to give a more elongated silhouette if you are not ultra slim. Starppy sandals are ideal for summer weddings, but remember you may be standing around for quite a while so they need to be bearably comfortable. Don’t forget that high heels may sink into soft grass, therefore wedge sandals may be more appropriate.
Autumn weddings are similar to spring in terms of the weather, there may be an Indian summer but it cannot be guaranteed! Autumnal shades such as burnt orange are ideal for weddings at this time of the year.
Accessorise with a softly draping scarf or shawl should it turn cooler. Shoes or elegant boots are a great footwear option with matching handbag for a chic look.
Winter weddings bring us wonderful colours of the season such as deep greens, rich reds and luscious purples. Wearing a trouser suit would be very acceptable and a practical way of keeping warm whilst inside a draughty church! Wear with ankle boots to keep toes toasty warm and feet dry!
Whatever outfit you choose to wear it will need to be appropriate for the style of wedding you are attending. Formal luxury weddings often call for a hat or hair embellishment. There are some very apt hair accessories widely available which will help to complete your look without being too ostentatious.
Less formal weddings enable you to relax your look at little, but this does not mean you should be too casual!
It may also be a good idea to check what colour the bridesmaids are wearing as you will not feel comfortable if your outfit is the same colour!
