Getting quality weightlifting clothing and attire is one of the best investments that you can make for your training effort. It is astounding to see the many persons who attend the gym wearing the most ridiculous types of attire. You should understand from the onset that good training attire will optimize the range of free-motions that you must achieve for a complete workout. Many people focus on the fashion sense of training attire rather than concentrating their effort on the functional aspects of what they are wearing. How ridiculous it is for someone to be in the gym while being dressed in a pair of tight-fitting jeans and a checked shirt. What is appropriate for you in the gym is apparel and clothing that allows you flexibility over a range of motions without in any way being an impediment to your movement.
It is upon you to decide what type of clothing will suit you. This comes naturally as you train. As soon as you feel constricted by your clothing you should realize that your choice of apparel is not working for you and that you should alter the training wardrobe. The most important pieces of clothing for you in the gym include:
* A quality sweat-shirt or t-shirt. This should ease your movement as much as possible. Test your choice of shirt by trying to lift your arms upward. If you find that you can barely do so then your shirt is too small a fit.
* A pair of quality training shorts or pants. These should be both loose fitting and comfortable. They should allow you to perform the squats completely without having to force yourself. The pants should also not be excessively long.
The weather is also an important consideration. Ensure that you have adequately warm attire. As the session gets more intense you can reduce the number of clothes you are wearing. Similarly when it is too humid and hot your clothing should complement the situation. Stick to a light weight attire. It is not advisable that you refrain from wearing rubber or plastic attire as this will inhibit evaporation. This can have negative effects on the body temperature. The size you choose should be just right, not too loose and not too fitting; just the right compromise. Looking cool is a plus.
The right attire does not include clothing only. There are other items that are considered here including the weightlifting belt and weightlifting gloves. The belt is necessary as you increase the weight level in your training regimen. Heavier weights mean more stress for certain body parts. The belt is vital for supporting the lower back in the course of intense motions like the squats and dead-lifts. The best and most recommended materials for weightlifting belts are Velcro, leather and nylon. Leather is the most preferred.
Gloves are necessary if you don’t intend to get calloused hands after lifting serious weights. Such gloves are designed to include grip surfaces that blend into the finger and hand contours for that optimized grip.
